Introduction

A e-commerce project is planned to be introduced into the GSB 622 MIS Course. One possible approach is being piloted in the face-to-face GSB 622 MIS class this fall. The problem is being done in 4 groups with 4 students in each group. Each group has defined a business and has determined what should be communicated on the home page and the about page on the web site. The schedule being followed and the required deliverable can be found here.

You are being asked to review the material that has been developed so far and provide your comments in the Week 4 Discussion. You are not required to participate in the Discussion but you do have the opportunity to earn up to 5 bonus points. You should have time to participate because there is no "normal" Discussion this week.

Even if you do not participate, you are encouraged to watch the 33 minutes of videos to learn about the steps involved in building a simple business web site.

Details

Go the the Special Bonus e-commerce folder in Week 4 in Blackboard. Watch the 6 videos in the Videos folder.

If you actually want to try building some web pages, read the paragraphs below. Otherwise, skip to the last paragraph. Building web pages is not required in this course and you will not receive any points for building them. You will get a place to host your web site and free consulting from me if you want to try to build web pages.

This class has been assigned to group99. You will be able to upload your pages to a server on the internet where the whole world can see your work.

If you setup a site in Dreamweaver, use ftp server www.northshorechoral.com, userid (login) group99@northshorechoral.com and password group99. Do not name the pages as described in the videos. We are all working in the same directory and we should name our files to avoid collisions. Instead of naming your home page "index.html", name your homepage homemyname.html (example: homemiller.html). Instead of naming your about page "about.html", name your about page aboutmyname.html (example: aboutmiller.html).

You will find all your pages at http://www.dombsb.com. You will also find the pages being built by the other GSB622 class at this link. Feel free to look at them.

If you decide to do any of the work, you are welcome to email me with any technical questions or any thoughts you have about the problem. (jmiller@dom.edu).

Most of you will probably not build actual web pages. After watching the videos, I would like you to participate in the Week 4 Discussion to provide your ideas about how to change and add to the material you have seen, how (whether) to incorporate the problem in an the online version of GSB 622, and other ideas you have about e-commerce in this course. Feel free to look at the work being done by the other GSB 622 class at http://www.dombsb.com.
