Week 3 Introduction
This week you will practice reading and updating database tables. This is covered because you need to be able to do this on any e-commerce site that you create or maintain. You want to fully validate data before posting it to the database so you will learn about data validation in two tutorials.
In this course, you build web sites from the ground up using fundamental technologies such as HTML, PHP and MySQL directly. Content Management Systems can automate some of the work that you do in this course but also have a learning curve. I present Content Management Systems this week so you can see the advantages and disadvantages of using them and begin thinking about whether you might like to use one in your final project (Warning: Content Management Systems have learning curves and you will probably spend more time on your final project if you use one.)
Lectures
The Lectures this week focus on one Content Mangement System (Joomla) and show how a web site can be built and maintained in Joomla. You should find this interesting. The lectures do not overlap any of the reading material.
